The objective of the Research Committee is to achieve high methodological and scientific quality required for the production of new knowledge in the field of pediatric orthopedics. 

We are dedicated to supporting and overseeing the execution of high-quality research projects, fostering innovation, and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards at all stages of research.

To promote excellence in clinical and academic research in the field of pediatric orthopedics in Mexico; to be recognized for contributing to the advancement of knowledge and scientific progress in this area.

According to the National Guide for the Integration and Operation of Research Ethics Committees, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) has as objectives:

• Contribute to safeguarding the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of all current or potential research participants
• Act in the interest of the participants and the communities involved in the research, taking into consideration national and international regulations on research ethics
• Ensure that the benefits and burdens of research are distributed among all groups and classes in society, taking into account age, gender, economic status, culture and ethnic considerations

The Ethics Research Committe promotes the observance of ethical principles in the research process, from design to publication of results, to ensure the protection of the integrity and rights of Shriners Children's participants, thus contributing to individual and societal well-being.

To be part of the institutional commitment in the evaluation of the ethical, methodological and regulatory aspects of research involving human subjects; guaranteeing the respect and protection of the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of all research participants at Shriners Children's.

The functions of the Research Ethics Committee are:

• Receive, review, evaluate, analyze and, if necessary, rule on research protocols involving human beings based on ethical principles in research and in a transparent, unanimous, independent, competent, professional, timely and free-of-influence manner
• Formulate and follow up on the ethical recommendations that correspond to the research protocols
• Develop institutional ethical and health research guidelines, in accordance with current regulations
• Advise researchers for optimal ethical conduct of their protocols
• Assist in the application of the law, regulations and other applicable provisions on health research

The objective of the Bioethics Committee is to disseminate and safeguard bioethical principles, such as beneficence, non-maleficence, equity and justice; and respect for human life, its dignity and the ecosystem.

The mission of the Bioethics Committee is the study, observance and application of values and principles, aimed at safeguarding the dignity of the person and the preservation of life.

That the Bioethics Committee be a humanistic, collegiate and guiding body in the field of bioethics at Shriners Children's Mexico.

The Bioethics Committee has three main functions:

1. Consultative function: This is the fundamental function. It refers to the resolution of bioethical problems in order to contribute to the quality of medical care
2. Guiding function: To analyze the processes in medical care to identify areas of opportunity and anticipate conflicts in patient-physician care and suggest solutions
3. Educational function: It comprises three senses. First, the revision of documents and continuous gradual training. Second, to inform and educate hospital personnel through conferences seminars and audiovisuals. Finally, education of the population – disseminating the role and activities of the committee to the users of medical care in the hospital

Limitations of the Bioethics Committee:

• They do not replace the doctor-patient relationship
• They do not replace the clinical decision-making that corresponds to the physician
• They do not analyze or sanction medical malpractice
• It does not deal with labor, administrative or legal matters

To request the intervention of the Bioethics Committee, fill out the Bioethics Committee Intervention Request Form. The request is reviewed to verify that it corresponds to a bioethical conflict and an ordinary, extraordinary or urgent review date is assigned. According to the assigned date, it is presented to the committee. The bioethical principles that may be threatened are analyzed, problems involved in the medical care are argued, and a solution to the conflict is proposed.

Once the proposal has been made, a recommendation document is issued and delivered to the interested party as well as to the medical or administrative area involved in the case. It is worth mentioning that all members sign a letter of confidentiality with the understanding that the information handled is not disseminated or used for any other purpose than conflict resolution and improvement of the quality of care.
